The objective of a Backgammon game is to shift your checkers around the game board and pull those pieces off the board quicker than your competitor who works just as hard to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Winning a match of Backgammon requires both tactics and fortune. How far you can shift your pieces is left to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and the way you shift your chips are determined by your overall gambling plans. Players use differing plans in the differing parts of a game dependent on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Tactic

The aim of the Running Game strategy is to bring all your chips into your home board and bear them off as quick as you could. This plan focuses on the speed of moving your chips with little or no efforts to hit or stop your opponent's checkers. The best time to employ this plan is when you believe you might be able to move your own pieces a lot faster than your opponent does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the game board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your opponent's pieces; or 3) the opponent doesn't use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The primary goal of the blocking tactic, by its name, is to block the opponent's chips, temporarily, not fretting about shifting your pieces quickly. After you have created the barrier for the opponent's movement with a couple of chips, you can move your other checkers swiftly off the board. You will need to also have a clear plan when to extract and move the pieces that you employed for the blockade. The game gets interesting when your opponent utilizes the same blocking technique.
