The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your checkers around the game board and pull them off the board quicker than your opponent who works harder to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a game in Backgammon requires both tactics and good luck. How far you will be able to shift your chips is up to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and just how you move your chips are determined by your overall gambling plans. Enthusiasts use a number of techniques in the differing parts of a game depending on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Technique

The goal of the Running Game plan is to lure all your chips into your inner board and pull them off as quick as you can. This plan concentrates on the pace of shifting your pieces with little or no time spent to hit or block your opponent's checkers. The ideal scenario to employ this tactic is when you believe you can move your own chips quicker than your opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the board; 2) all your chips have past your competitor's pieces; or 3) your opponent does not employ the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main goal of the blocking plan, by its name, is to stop the competitor's checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your checkers quickly. As soon as you've created the blockage for the opponent's movement with a couple of checkers, you can move your other checkers swiftly off the board. You should also have a clear plan when to extract and shift the chips that you utilized for the blockade. The game gets interesting when the competitor utilizes the same blocking strategy.
