The aim of a Backgammon game is to shift your chips around the Backgammon board and get those pieces off the game board faster than your opposing player who works just as hard to do the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon needsrequires both strategy and fortune. How far you will be able to shift your chips is left to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and the way you move your pieces are determined by your overall playing strategies. Enthusiasts use different plans in the different parts of a game based on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Strategy

The goal of the Running Game strategy is to lure all your chips into your inner board and pull them off as quick as you can. This tactic concentrates on the speed of shifting your checkers with no time spent to hit or barricade your competitor's pieces. The ideal time to use this tactic is when you believe you can shift your own chips faster than your opponent does: when 1) you have a fewer checkers on the game board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your opponent's chips; or 3) the opposing player doesn't use the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Plan

The main aim of the blocking plan, by its name, is to block the opponent's chips, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your checkers quickly. As soon as you've created the blockade for the competitor's movement with a couple of pieces, you can move your other checkers swiftly off the game board. You should also have an apparent strategy when to withdraw and shift the pieces that you employed for the blockade. The game becomes intriguing when your opponent uses the same blocking technique.
