The goal of a Backgammon match is to move your chips around the Backgammon board and bear them off the board quicker than your opponent who works just as hard to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a game of Backgammon requires both strategy and fortune. How far you will be able to shift your chips is up to the numbers from tossing the dice, and the way you shift your checkers are decided on by your overall playing strategies. Enthusiasts use differing plans in the different stages of a match based on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game technique is to entice all your chips into your inner board and get them off as quick as you can. This tactic focuses on the speed of moving your chips with absolutely no time spent to hit or block your competitor's chips. The best scenario to employ this technique is when you think you can shift your own pieces quicker than the opposition does: when 1) you have less chips on the game board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your opponent's pieces; or 3) the opposing player does not use the hitting or blocking plan.

The Blocking Game Plan

The main goal of the blocking technique, by its name, is to stop your opponent's checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. As soon as you've created the barrier for the opponent's movement with a couple of checkers, you can shift your other pieces quickly from the game board. The player really should also have a clear strategy when to back off and shift the checkers that you used for blocking. The game gets intriguing when the competitor utilizes the same blocking strategy.
