As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of talent and good luck. The goal is to move your pieces safely around the board to your inner board and at the same time your opposition moves their checkers toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces moving in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at specific instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the aim of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move his pieces, the Priming Game plan is to completely block any activity of the opposing player by building a prime - ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor's checkers will either get hit, or end up in a battered position if she at all attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you've successfully constructed the prime to block the movement of your competitor, your opponent does not even get to roll the dice, that means you move your pieces and roll the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar - to hurt your competitor's positions in hope to better your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy relies on alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game tactic is frequently employed when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this tactic, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This tactic is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are moved is partially the result of the dice roll.
