The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the Backgammon board and pull them from the game board faster than your opposing player who works just as hard to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a game in Backgammon needsrequires both tactics and good luck. How far you will be able to move your pieces is left to the numbers from tossing the dice, and just how you move your chips are decided on by your overall playing strategies. Players use different strategies in the different parts of a game based on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Technique

The goal of the Running Game strategy is to lure all your pieces into your inner board and get them off as quick as you could. This tactic focuses on the speed of advancing your chips with no time spent to hit or barricade your competitor's pieces. The best scenario to use this technique is when you think you can move your own pieces quicker than your opposing player does: when 1) you have less pieces on the game board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your competitor's checkers; or 3) your opponent does not use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Plan

The primary goal of the blocking technique, by the title, is to block your competitor's checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your chips rapidly. After you've established the blockade for the competitor's movement with a couple of checkers, you can shift your other pieces quickly from the board. You should also have a clear plan when to back off and shift the chips that you employed for the blockade. The game gets interesting when your competitor uses the same blocking tactic.
